>No, I've shown how absurd conclusions have to be drawn from 'has human DNA and is alive'.
No, you have not.
Why, by your definition of Human Life, is not a braindead body a human life? Why is a baby born only with a brain stem not a human life? Why is a clump of cells not a human life? Why is a stem cell not a human life? What constitutes human DNA? What about people who lack swaths of certain chromosomes?
That you can't see the absurdity implied by 'Has Human DNA and Is Alive --> Is a Human Life', then I can't teach you basic logic and reasoning skills for the same reason I can't argue with creationists.
Do the math. Its stupid.
I did. You claim a fetus is not a human life. It obviously has human DNA making it human. It is obvious alive. It is also very different from a culture of cells. A culture of cells is just sitting in a dish. A fetus is a growing developing person.
But you have yet to deal with the objections I raised derived from your theis: 'Has Human DNA and Is Alive --> Is a Human Life'
If I take the fetus outside the womb before a certain point- then it is just a culture of cells 'just sitting in a dish'. A baby born without a brain, just a brain stem, can still develop, grow, reach puberty, etc if fed. I bet you don't think that brainstem is a human life in the same way that you are a human life.
Again- your thesis leads to absurd conclusions. If you can't handle those absurd conclusions, then your thesis has to be false. If not, then logic (and Math, Science, etc) goes out the window. Do you want to live in a demon haunted world? I don't. If you want to be an anomalist, thats fine, but don't expect me to take you seriously.
>I'll tell the hair follicles at the root of the hair on my brush that next time I brush out a tangle after riding in my friends convertible. They'll be quite pleased to hear they are humans.
Your hair follicles are not building a new person.
Again, neither is a fetus removed from the womb before a certain point.
See- you are adding the clause "and is building a new human person" to your original thesis- so you admit that:
'Has Human DNA and Is Alive --> Is a Human Life'
is insufficient. Now you want to claim:
'Has Human DNA and Is Alive and is building a new person --> Is a Human Life'
My point to you from the beginning (see in below thread) was that you had to add something to your definition. Here you are adding something while at the same time claiming your original thesis is right. Are you not even aware of this?
>No, look up what viability means. Yeesh. It would be nice if you even knoew the basic terms under discussion.
I got news for you, a one year old is not viable. Show me a one year old that can survive on its own. (Delete comment to counter personal attack).
Viability is well defined medically. Its the point where a fetus can respirate and live outside the womb. By your definition, taken to logical conclusion, nobody is 'viable' because we need food, oxygen, etc. Again, stupid argument that is absurd on its face. Go Fish. Also, clean up your editorial notes before you post.
>Again- silly thesis, for all the reasons I've mentioned. You need more than A DNA sequence otherwise absurdity rapidly follows.
Ahhh, so you are starting to understand. Good. That is why a fertilized egg is different than any other cell in the human body. It is more than the blueprint for a new person. It is their construction crew. It begins building the new person from day one.
This last bit makes no sense to me. It sounds like you are saying nothing. If you want me to respond to this, you'll have to make it clear enough. The way I read it, the Stem Cell counterexample as well as the example of fetus+womb immediately come to mind, neither of which supports the point you are arguing.

>My 'crazy belief' is that full human life begins at viability (which is somewhere in the third trimester). My belief also states that an unborn child is precious and sacred, and that If someone was pregnant with my child, I would do everything i could short of infringing upon their rights to stop them from aboting it. But thats my belief, and thats where my rights end WRT that belief.
Well good. I am glad to hear that. It sounds like you will be a good father, and I mean that.
