The logical implies (-->) was, of course, read as HTML and deleted whole swaths of my post, so I have to re-write and revise in order for it to make sense.
No, I've shown how absurd conclusions have to be drawn from 'has human DNA and is alive'.
No, you have not.
If your hypothesis that 'Has Human DNA and Is Alive [IMPLIES] is a Human Life' leads to absurd conclusions, then it can't be accepted as true. It does. A Baby born with only a brain stem (happens often) fits your definition. A clump of cells fit this definition. Stem Cells very much fit this definition. A person in a coma with no mental function whatsoever fits this definition.
If you don't see the obvious problematic implications of your hypothesis, then I can't teach you basic logic and reasoning skills for the same reason I can't argue with creationists.
Do the math. Its stupid.
I did. You claim a fetus is not a human life. It obviously has human DNA making it human. It is obvious alive. It is also very different from a culture of cells. A culture of cells is just sitting in a dish. A fetus is a growing developing person. Is a Human Life'
If I take the fetus outside the womb before a certain point- then it is just a culture of cells 'just sitting in a dish'. A baby born without a brain, just a brain stem, can still develop, grow, reach puberty, etc if fed. I bet you don't think that brainstem is a human life in the same way that you are a human life.
Again- your thesis leads to absurd conclusions. If you can't handle those absurd conclusions, then your thesis has to be false. If not, then logic (and Math, Science, etc) goes out the window. Do you want to live in a demon haunted world? I don't. If you want to be an anomalist, thats fine, but don't expect me to take you seriously.
I'll tell the hair follicles at the root of the hair on my brush that next time I brush out a tangle after riding in my friends convertible. They'll be quite pleased to hear they are humans.
Your hair follicles are not building a new person.
You have gone from:
'Has Human DNA and Is Alive [IMPLIES] is a Human Life' to:
'Has Human DNA and Is Alive AND is Building a Person [IMPLIES] is a Human Life'
My point to you from the beginning (see in below thread) was that you had to add something to your definition. Here you are adding something while at the same time claiming your original thesis is right. Are you not even aware of this?
Again, if I take a fetus from a womb, it is no longer building a person, so is that fetus alive? By your definition, the fetus itself is not alive, but the fetus+mother+womb is. Don't jump up and say 'exactly!' just yet, because you've just made that life contingent on another life! It means you can't then say that the fetus iself is alive!. Best case scenario for your argument is that you are stuck evaluating the needs, desires, rights and responsibilites of the mother.
However, I'd say that argument is silly, because right now my body is not developing, is not building a new person. My growth has stopped. Thus, it would seem that I don't fit the definition you propose as life.
Stem Cells, then, also very much fit your description of a Human Life.
Also: further absurdities arise from the 'Human DNA' clause - chimpanzees have 97% to 99% genetic similarity to humans, does that mean they are 97%-99% human? What about people who lack whole swaths of DNA? Are they human? Are people who are born with an extra copy of a chromosome more human? Are women mor ehuman than men?
No, look up what viability means. Yeesh. It would be nice if you even knoew the basic terms under discussion.
I got news for you, a one year old is not viable. Show me a one year old that can survive on its own. (Delete comment to counter personal attack).
Viability is well defined medically. Its the point where a fetus can respirate and live outside the womb. By your definition, taken to logical conclusion, nobody is 'viable' because we need food, oxygen, etc. Again, stupid argument that is absurd on its face. Go Fish. Also, clean up your editorial notes before you post.
Again- silly thesis, for all the reasons I've mentioned. You need more than A DNA sequence otherwise absurdity rapidly follows.
Ahhh, so you are starting to understand. Good. That is why a fertilized egg is different than any other cell in the human body. It is more than the blueprint for a new person. It is their construction crew. It begins building the new person from day one.
This doesn't even make sense.
