Nobody is arguing that the problems you mention don't exist. Like education, health care, and many other issue, the arguments aren't about the existence of a problem, but about how to deal with it.

Too many people start engineering government-based centralized, "one-size-fits-all" solutions to these things. What you end up with then is ideas like "No Child Left Behind," "New Math," or "outlawing incandescent light bulbs."

The nice thing about decentralizing government and solutions is that somebody's brain fart doesn't become the law of the land.

I get a little tired of Scandinavia being tossed out as a way to do things. There are only 800,000 more people in Sweden than there are in New York City. It reminds me of Howard Dean bragging how he balanced the budget of Vermont.
