Past/Present/Future are all now, you just have to know how to alter your frame of reference to them - in this case you have to use the part of your body that regularly oscillates FTL - your consciousness.
Folks think the now of 2007 is advanced and technocratic, but it is a pale, forlorn, wasteland next to the technologies which will exist in the future - just a hundred years from now!
And when one develops the ability to time travel, one never limits oneself to just one period - one travels through ALL of them.
Want to see the first small ships landing on 'America' - no prob - you can be there to observe them launch a craft go ashore and explore the native environs. Watch Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, or Ludwig Beethoven perform live in concert? The tickets are already there. See Hatshepsut deliver justice while wearing the crown of two lands? Perhaps watch the Mongol hordes stream into China and overwhelm their armies? Watch Abraham Lincoln deliver the Gettysburg Address? Feel the heat from Nero's burning Rome? Sit in a class at Plato's academy? See if humans evolved on the timetable as science, today, suggests or if they really did evolve from apes? Watch FDR leave the White House to address congress and declare war? All these things and much, much more await the future time traveler whose focus is the planet Earth.
What's more, not only the past is open to visitation. You can, if you so choose travel into the distant future. See a burned out Earth devoid of all life and break up in a fiery cataclysm to survive only as a ring of asteroids around the sun, while the largest parts soon descend into the sun - to be disintegrated by the same life-giving energies that spawned it. Such somber moments help put things in perspective for the seasoned time traveler. The birth/death of worlds becomes just the blink of an eye in the life cycle of a solar system. Same is true with the birth/death of stars in the life cycle of a galaxy. Even the grandeur of a star's birth or the terrible majesty in the death of a solar system, and the star that supports it, becomes just another bit of data to be stored by consciousness.
Soon the time traveler realizes the universe itself is far more than just planets, stars and galaxies and can see for his or herself how the material universe works and the birth of all these things - and as a result discovers the other dimensions from whence this enormous energy is made manifest. Seeing life and eventually consciousness express in a trillion and one various forms, yet all sharing certain fundamental similarities.
The time traveler quickly loses interest in just one small world, or even one the material form/host for one type of consciousness and no longer personalizes it. The time traveler is a true denizen of the multiverse and holds citizenship on countless worlds, where he/she is welcomed with open arms by benevolent and enlightened populations or whose presence is feared and respected by worlds still shrouded in ignorance, perhaps spawning one of the billions of religions or feeding the fears and superstitions of the native populations. Yet other worlds will never be aware of the travelers presence, due to disparity in form or perception.
Time travelers don't make the 'if' choice - they get the whole multiverse served up on a platter for their participation and understanding.
