He sci-fi's Phillip Roth

e writes highly literate and intelligent novels, and very competent historical non-fiction. He also writes trashy sci-fi, and exploitive garbage, worthless blockbusters, awful fantasy; all strictly for the money, by his own admission, and even (under a pseudonym) soft porn.

I highly recommend:
Up the Line
Dying Inside
Tower of Glass
To Live Again
Downward to the Earth
A Time of Changes
The World Inside
The Second Trip
Born With the Dead

And his masterpiece (kill for this one if you have to)
The Book of Skulls

And stay away from his "Majipoor Chronicles" . They suck.
