He does that a lot- When I read crichton's "Sphere" as a kid I rememember reaching the end and throwing the book down in disgust... "I wasted my time for THAT??!!" I didnt care for Andromeda Strain largely for that reason
The first Jurassic park book was ok- but it really was better as a movie, the books that followed were unreadable, and the movies were only good as eye candy (Am I misremembering, I distinctly remember Ian Malcolm - Jeff Goldblums character- dying in the first book- then all of a sudden he is lead character in the second book?!)
Crichton's "Congo" wasnt just bad, it was offensive and insulting- it read like a 'Great White Hunter' story from the 30's- even including the cliche of the african chief trying to buy the blonde white woman...
His book, "Prey" was the last straw- after that I swore never to buy anything that he has written- Prey was hyped to be some great book about the promise and dangers presented by nono-tech, instead it was juvenile drivel about nanites taking over peoples bodies and making them do bad things- sorry I have seen that theme overdone already, and besides even the star trek episode with 'fried egg' shaped body snatchers was better written!
