Walk a mile in TB's shoes

Tom holds to a philosophy which values consistency as a virtue. By his lights, calling his behavior "winger broken record mode" is high praise. You've just acknowledged that he'll never stray from the course or the message, and never. ever flip-flop.

We all value dependability (in truth, we all share pretty much the same spectrum of values and beliefs, but weighted differently by personal values). I observe that the conservative mind prefers the world to be simple and direct and concrete, and so consistency of words and behavior translates directly into the perception, by conservatives, of dependability. When Bush displays what most of us see as insane stubbornness, the conservative mind finds comfort in his consistency. He's trustworthy because he never changes. He's the father-figure who will never abandon you.

As I continue to explore the wilderness of conservative psychology, I'm starting to understand that it's a closed system in the Goedelian sense (in plain English: Ever felt you could hold both sides of a conversation with Tom?), and would be much easier to model as an AI. In fact, a rough back-of-the-envelope calculation suggests that the mass of Tom's writing the in the HabitableZone database is about 68% of the way to critical mass. In roughly 3-4 years, we may well see the ignition of an AI Tom right here at the Zone. Imagine it: Tom could retire, and nobody would know, as the same posts keep occurring with the same clockwork dependability.

'Course, that still leaves us several orders of magnitude short of true AI, but it's a start...
