Unless you're suggesting that maximizing revenue isn't important to cnbc, and that the most profitable evening in their history was simply an accident.

As for the RNC cancelling the debate, tv execs read spreadsheets, not tea leaves. Every business decision, even hugely successful ones, carry uncertainty and risk.
