Flame

A wonderful essay on Huffington

and since sites like that are considered "commie indoctrination" by the rabid side of our participants, I figure Flame is the appropriate start for this one.

The article is about lies and distortions from the right, a topic that seems to be on the minds of people on our forum recently as characterized by an exchange I've been having with SteveS.

Here's the link to the article:

The Lies of John McCain and Mike Huckabee

and a wonderful response from a reader:

Prior to coming to the USA I had read the Constitution, the Letters of Thomas Jefferson, the Crisis Papers and the Age of Reason by Thomas Paine in English, among others. Those inspired and inspiring writings convinced me that the USA is the place to be.
After 50 years of living, working and raising a family, I see that sadly, most native born "Proud patriots" are grossly unfamiliar with history and the great minds that put together the American ideals and values in writing. They just might know them by name only and have distorted the meaning of the words of those magnificent founders.
We currently live in the Age of Unreason, where neither the Conservatives nor , to a lesser extent the Liberals, have clear notions of what they stand for.
And the real patriots are the ones who, as Bob Cesca is doing here, remind us who we are as Americans.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if our own natural-born citizens were as well-read as this immigrant.
