The world of 1983 and today

So glad the system worked for your mother and I could certainly share some happy endings as well as far as my experiences with health insurance. Bottom line though for each of those situations was that just dumb luck worked with me and my love ones to actually have proper coverage at the times things occurred. Quite a few times there were gaps when I was between jobs or working for someone that didn't offer health insurance.

Today's prices for insurance and the rising copays now mean that many have to forgo coverage for the necessities of life and there's a much greater chance they'll be denied coverage for "pre-existing conditions".

Very few corporations back then were significantly burdened as they are today by offering medical benefits to their employees.

I'm replying to your post because it gave me the impression that you were validating our private medical insurance system based on one experience and I hope you know that your good outcome doesn't always match reality for many. As I say, I've had a combination of responsibility and luck that has prevented me from experiencing the real downside of our current system but that just feels wrong that it can all fall apart so easily.

Sure seems in a nation as great and powerful as our that all citizens should have at least catastrophic coverage no questions asked.
