That's because...

...your mom was a good one.

;-)

It's a cross-section of moms, used primarily to illustrate a point. I remember an old schoolmate who despised his dad...loathed him actually. He would do anything he could to get back at him. Drink, stay home past curfew, swear, pierce his ear - whatever it took to try and distance himself from his dad and drive his dad crazy. He's a hardcore liberal now and the last time I saw him he was smoking like a chimney and was not sober - even though in his youth he made fun of folks with these vices.

He still hates his dad and they don't speak. His mom silently suffered his escapades while his dad woke up the neighbors and set off car alarms. Watching him embrace liberalism, just to get back at daddy and his values was very educational. From my perspective, his daddy-issues screwed up his life.

I multiply his story times a tens of million other liberals for whom "personally being free while simultaneously demanding things from others and the government" is their way of life...and they are completely blind to the contradiction.
