St. Paul and women
Actually, everybody thought that way about women back then.
Paul himself seemed to swing back and forth, sometimes promoting the equality of all, including women, in the church (women were even leaders in some factions), and other times insisting women should be "silent" in worship services. While I haven't studied this (it's not really a major interest of mine), it seems that there isn't a lot of consistency across the whole collection of Paul's writings, which is why one should be suspicious of any movement that picks only one or two verses out of the Bible and forms a philosophy from them.
