looks like we agree on a lot after all. Interesting take on the gospels I'll have to take a closer look at that. I find the humanness of the apostles somehow comforting. As Eri mentioned Paul did have a lot of issues, but to be fair we can't judge them entirely with our 21st century morals and standards. What is astonishing behavior today was the status quo then. Conversely any time you read of somebody taking what seems a very small step forward in the past we should remember it was probably a landmark decision and change in thinking when viewed in their time.
I also find how the crucifiction stage was set to be quite interesting. While blasphemy was a capital offense under mosaic law, the jews had no legal authority to carry it out. That was a power, the romans reserved for themselves. So it was necessary for the sanhedrin to present Jesus as a rabblerouser and traitor to Rome in order to get the death penalty carried out by the romans. Pontius Pilate was put in a tough position trying to keep the riot under control, but also knowing he was sending an innocent man to the cross. At that point the mob chose to pardon the murderer Barrabus rather Jesus. Pilate would have had a full scale revolt and likely would have lost his position had he done anything different.
