But regardless of what argument a liberal might make, conservatives morph it into "take away all guns." It's what they'll accuse us of saying, no matter what they actually hear.
And they ignore this sort of thing, or this, no matter who brings it up.
From Military.com:
Smart guns may finally have their day, after years of development. The New Jersey Institute of Technology showed a personalized gun in 2005 with biometric sensors in its grip and a customized trigger that tracks a shooter's hand size, strength, and grip style. It was programmed to recognize only the owner, or anyone the owner authorizes.
Even Colt got in the game, developing a bracelet in the late 90s that emits a radio signal that stirs a mechanism inside a weapon to allow the gun to be fired.
And last but not least, some conservatives enjoy this debate because they use it to accuse liberals of being irrational, while others simply enjoy any sort of taunt they can throw at liberals.
EDIT: watch what they'll say here--they'll dismiss smartgun technology by saying "it wouldn't have helped in this case, so it's not useful at all."

- Why choose between "gun violence" and "Islamic terrorism"?
- Yemen has less than half the rate of gun violence as does the US. There has to be a way to work together to lessen it.
- It was radical fucking Islamic terrorism. I so "wanted to see that". You ass...I
- Conservatives would rather see recent events as "Islamic Terror" rather than "Gun Violence."
- "the U.S. gun-related murder rate is almost 20 times that of the other 22."
- It appears that everyone is circling the wagons. n/t
