A wannabe "Caliphate"

Keeping that fact in mind helps helps resist the visceral terror people are trying to plant in your mind. ISIS encourages Muslims to "come home" to the Caliphate, and only very recently--this year, in Paris twice--have they changed tactics to sending a few "soldiers" abroad.

Or back home. ISIS focuses much of its propaganda efforts, universally acknowledged as effective, at forcing Muslims living in the West out of the "grey zone"--societies of tolerance that accept their different religions and expect tolerance in return--because those Muslims, in the eyes of extremists, are the "apostates" for compromising with Western culture. (Sound familiar as an expression of culture war?) ISIS recruits among Muslims in foreign countries like the UK, France, and US by driving a wedge between young Muslims and the society in which they live.

I can say it till I'm blue in the face but it may never sink in: They want Americans to fear and hate Muslims, they want us to validate their propaganda by doing hateful things like turning away refugees fleeing ISIS...geez, how messed up can we be? They love Trump's plan for a registry of Muslims; they love the talk of "investigating" mosques. They love to hear every Republican Presidential candidate confirm how much Americans just hate Muslims, all Muslims, all the time. They love it when Republican politicians accept their invitation to a "clash of civilizations". They're already getting the shit bombed out of them, do you think they're particularly impressed when Trump or Lindsey Graham promises to do it harder, better, faster?

ISIS is laughing at the spectacle of Americans soiling their pants in fear of them. Suck it up, man, don't be a willing victim of the psychological warfare of terrorism.
