Child Labor
No fledgling feeds the fatherbird,
No chicken feeds the hen,
No kitten mouses for the cat –
This glory is for men.
We are the wisest, strongest race:
Long may our praise be sung –
The only animal alive
That lives upon its young!
Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860-1935)
It is no longer considered good business to profit from the labor of children.
Instead, we have turned them into a market which can be sold to and exploited with a clear conscience. After all, no one puts a gun to their head and makes them buy.
