Congratulations. That's the most reasoned and eloquent defense of the exploitation of child labor I've read since the Gilded Age. I'd love to hear your views on debtor's prisons, company stores and the 14 hour day.
Children no longer work in factories, but not because of the largesse of their bosses, but because a tiny portion of their profits have been diverted away for the social benefit. And yes, it had to be done at gunpoint because that was the only way those bastards were going to give it up. And I'm sure they complained then how this unnecessary regulation and government interference was going to be the end of civilization as we know it.
Or perhaps by "Conservative" you mean maintaining as many of the injustices of the past long after the time when they are necessary because they build character. I suppose the last century of social progress has been nothing but the coddling of the lazy and the brutish because they are too stupid and unambitious to engage in entrepreneurial activity.
If you feel nostalgic for the Cold War, TB, have no fear. As long as people feel that way, Communism will always find a dark, festering place to take root.
