Tom, there is no beatnik cafe society working feverishly to undermine the republic. The vast conspiracy of lefty professors you seem to fear so much spend most of their time talking to each other, not corrupting the youth or subverting the leadership. Real leftists are out organizing politically and rebuilding unions, not writing learned monographs only other leftists and their conservative critics read. This whole academic culture cadre you've fantasized is a fiction you've created for yourself to justify the way you feel about people who really have better things to obsess about than you do. You feel about liberals the same way Nazis felt about Jews, and Red Guards felt about "Capitalist Roaders", and to be honest, your rhetoric is starting to sound indistinguishable from theirs, once a few key nouns and adjectives are substituted. I'm not saying you'd advocate the same measures they did, but your feelings are the same. Scary. Sometimes you scare me more than SDAI does.

Most people, left or right, spend very little of their time thinking about politics. In fact, one of the things I really dislike about this board is how it forces me to think about it more than I want to. You may see that as a victory, I feel it is an intrusion of my privacy. As far as I'm concerned, there is little difference between politicians, lawyers, bureaucrats and businessmen. They're all jerks in suits who feed off the labor and misfortunes of others.
