Another informal survey, this one on SUV occupancy.
Tonight I stood at an intersection and watched large SUVs driving by. The big ones. I counted the people in them.
After 10 there was an average of 1.2 people, 60% of the capacity of a "smart" car..
I went into the store, came back out and watched some more. The next 5 had 1 person each. The capacity of a motorcycle.
None of them had more than 2 people.
Certainly not definitive, but certainly typical of my experience. I very, very rarely see one of those holding more than 5 people, the capacity of a medium-sized sedan.
People would be smarter, maybe, to rent a vehicle to haul the kids and presents, Uncle Clem and Aunt Sara out to Granma's for Christmas Eve.
