FDR and GW Bush

Roosevelt made no secret of what he was going to do. Love him or hate him, voters knew what they were getting when he was elected.

Those who hated or feared FDR accused him of practicing socialism. You wouldn't have heard Bush accused of that until recently, when he socialized the debt of big banking.

Bush has attempted with great success to deregulate private industry. He stood by while people began to lose their homes. But when the big financials began to collapse, all but one have gotten the helping hand that people whose only asset was a home were told to whistle for. He says that government spending is a bad thing, unless the spending benefits people he knows by taking it from people he doesn't.

Bush brings the power of government to help citizens with power. FDR brought the power of government to help as many citizens as possible. FDR's actions were undoubtedly influenced by his times, but he is revered for a reason.
