America supports the Saudis because of oil,
which is intolerable to Al-Quaida,
who hates the kingdom,
so Al-Quaida treacherously attacked the US,
and took refuge in Afghanistan,
which forced the US to attack Afghanistan and the Taliban.
But the US had its own self-serving plans for Iraq,
and these events were the perfect excuse to carry them out
because it was to the benefit of its own oil economy and its security, which demands the Muslim world remain divided,
as well as pleasing its influential Israel lobby,
which also has an interest, to keep the Muslim world divided.
The Arab world hates Israel and by extension the US,
because Irael has repeatedly humiliated it on the battlefield,
and taken all their land after defending itself from a sneak attack, provoked by an unprecedented land grab.
Jewish history has taught them that never again must they be in a position where they cannot ruthlessly defend their own interests.
But the Arabs also need Israel,
to have someone to blame for their own self-generated problems,
and distract their own people from the greed, incompetence and cruelty of their leaders.
Now if you're in an Israeli kibbutz being bombarded by Katyushas
or a Palestinian who's just had his house flattened by an Israeli tank
or American family orphaned and widowed in 9/11
or an Iraqi whose lost her family due to collateral bomb damage
or a Pakistani humiliated by having the US attack sites in Pakistan with tacit approval of your own government
or an Afghani farmer shaken being shaken down by the Taliban
or a Lebanese Christian intimidated by a Syrian Hezbolla thug
or a comfortable European who doesn't want to get his hands dirty
all you can see and care about is how this conflict affects you personally.
So if you're looking for root causes of this conflict, it's the result of
the Holocaust, American hunger for petroleum, the medieval insanity of fundamentalist Islam, and centuries of European Colonialism, Cold War superpower rivalry, petty middle east dictator ambition, and global geopolitical maneuvering.
And if you're looking for a solution, you'd better hope it doesn't come soon because innocent people will suffer and villains will prosper no matter how it gets resolved.

- A religious mission ?
- Doin' the stream-of-consciousness Holy Land Rag
- Destroying Israel has never been a "religious mission" for the Islamic world?
- Who owns the moral high ground?
- Interesting how different eyes view the same words
- You don't think it's right to bring it up for discussion?
- Buck, you can do better than that.
- You noticed that too?
- re: A religious mission ? - Sorry, there's more at work here.
