Right of return is a sticky point and I can see the palestinians side of it. However, 50+ years (at the time of the 2000 negotiations) is a LONG time. Refugees were to be offered monetary compensation, which is a helluva lot more than any other displaced refugees ever got in any other war 50 years removed.
Still I could support right of return if there was balance. What about jews who lived in arab states and lost everything after Israel was created? They too were driven from their homes. Do they have the right to return 50 years later and claim their old homes back? Should they at least be offered compensation for their loss?
How about this: Let's ensure both Israel and the future palestinian state are democratic by allowing as many palestinians who want to live in Israel and as many Israelis who want to live on the west bank.
Again, balance and consistency of policy is fair, no?
