"Was the creation of Israel, as it happened, a good thing? "

Was the creation of the US, as it happened, a good thing? Would it have been better had it happened peacefully and without any negative consequences to native americans? Should America cease to exist because of the circumstances of its creation?

Was the creation of modern Germany, as it happened, a good thing? Who cares if they ripped Europe to shreds in three wars over 75 years?

Was the creation of Saudi Arabia, as it happened, a good thing? So what if their backward Wahabist government condemns a 75 year old woman to 50 lashes for leaving her home without a male escort?

Was the creation of modern Poland, as it happened, a good thing? So what if tens of millions of Poles and Germans were uprooted and driven from their homes so the Soviets could redraw the borders to their liking?

Yeah it's unfortunate Israel was created in a state of war, but I would venture to guess that is the case with almost every nation on earth. Israel has sought peace and will continue to, and has achieved it with Egypt and Jordan. The problem is no unsolvable.
