timing is everything

Was the creation of the US a good thing? Ask the native tribes. If we ignore that part of the equation, the US and your other examples are all about politics and not religion. The US vs the native tribes is actually a good example. We found an ugly way to resolve the problem that is no longer available.

If Israel had been founded 100 years earlier they might be one of the largest and most powerful countries in the Middle East and the problem, as we know it, would be behind us for the most part. We would probably be dealing with them for our energy. However, the law of unintended consequences might be creating a different set of problems.

I have always been supportive of Israel and I remain so because we have to play fair with the cards in our hand. I hope that the problem is eventually solved, but I don't share your optimism.

Would the Jews have been satisfied with a home land not associated with the holy land? I don't have an answer for that, but I suspect it could have been negotiated.
