...the British Empire has lots to be held accountable for, but one can also thank them for bringing civilization to places generally without.
The good comes with the bad. Their efforts were no less reprehensible than those of Belgium in the Congo or the preesent day activities of France in Somalia and TOTAL all over the 3rd world. Europe has made money where it can. Once the technology and innovation curve shifted to the USA, Europe redoubled its old-world style wealth generation, drilling up foreign lands, exporting US technology with a European label to the places the US refused to deal with.
They have a right to survive. They have a right to compete for the world's wealth.
The 3rd world is in on the game now. Unfortunately, the politics and religions make their efforts more dangerous for humanity as a whole.
Those who lament imperialism, fail to see the huge humanist value in it. Evolution is going on all the time and human cultural evolution is no exception.
Man must create superior cultures that permit man tro live in the best manner possible. Freedom from want, freedom from fear and freedom from repression. US imperialism has been driven by freedom. European imperialism was driven primarily by wealth generation. Huge difference.
Some forms of imperialism are beneficial and others are malignant. No one mentions the reverse-imperialism of the 3rd world into Europe and the rest of the world - where even cartoons now get people killed and suppress millions more with fear.
Yes, imperialism is going on both ways. Try to wrap your mind around that concept. If the US loses - freedom loses. It's not a game. If US imperialism fails, our descendants will live in tyranny and oppression that make King George and his minor taxes appear like the nicest and least repressive guy on Earth.
Political correctness is the means of redistributing global power from freedom lovers to freedom haters.
It's an escape mechanism of choice for young and old activists for whom history is, at best, sketchy and unfamiliar, but for whom feeling good about themselves is the paramount concern. How many people are talking about the benefits of western expansionism - how many can feel good about that?
Those who read my posts have a chance to gain some perspective. There are painfully few outlets who can proffer up a big picture outlook and promote western freedom over totalitarian and religious tyranny.
I am a humanist first and foremost - and what's more I KNOW that I will have to live not just in this century, but many more centuries after this one and I will suffer under my own inaction if I do not share what I know to be true. That's the ultimate punishment for laziness - living in conditions that you yourself create. That's how we learn.
Well, I'm doing my bit - so that I can live in ever more intelligent, peaceful and productive nations, where the freeedoms we have now are not diminshed but multiplied. Where humanity keeps refining itself and moving forward - not clinging to the religions and primitive barbaric ideas of the past.
