In my philosophy, when a business develops too close a working relationship with the State, it usually tends to become part of the problem. You can't tell the pigs from the men any more.
There is a solution to this. Take most of the power of control away from the government. Corruption requires power, and the more the power, the more the corruption.
Nobody wants to hear this. Everyone is fixated on the idea of using that power for THEIR agenda. And of course, the legislators who have that power aren't going to let go of it either.
In "Lord of the Rings," a lot of people thought taking control of the One Ring and using it was the answer to all of their problems. Of course, they would use it only for good.
Only a very few wise people realized that the right answer was to throw it into a volcano.
