Healthcare and unintended consequences

I haven't been paying a lot of attention to what they have in mind for our healthcare but apparently it will involve expanding the eligibilty for Medicaid

Swelling Medicaid eligibility

This problem may be unique to Alabama but the routine health care here is so bad, those that already qualify do not use it. Public health facilities are used for immunization because it is the only game in town but the preferred method to get treatment for minor ailments like colds, and sromach aches, is to go to emergency rooms and wait the long wait for treatment that will never be paid for. The long wait is usually shorter than the wait for services that are free.

My only reason for mentioning this is that inclusion is just the beginning. Something will have to be done to bring the routine public health care up to acceptable standards or it will be by-passed as it already is. Maybe they can make all hospital emergency rooms part of the program.

The medicaid inclusions still seem to leave a huge gap that includes the more or less middle class folks that are either without health insurance or at risk to lose coverage if they lose their job

(I am totally out of the debate on how it all gets paid for)
