Btw, more on costs (diabetes)
A while ago TB speculated that $10,000 would be pretty unusual for annual expenses for someone with diabetes. Actually the average two years ago was $7,000 per year directly per person, and $12,000/year total health care for diabetics. Add in being in a part of the country with above average costs and 10k is pretty easy even without any complications.
