The moons a world of fascinating alien geolgy, with mysteries to keep the scientific community guessing for decades, and the clues to last four billion years of the solar systems history on its surface and subsurface.
NEO objects, particlularly C and D class ones, are remanants fromt the solar system earliest time, hold records of the chemistry that led to life, and what we've learned from meteorites many tells us that many are fragments of planitesimals that had habitable subsurfaces. We've found more organic chemistry directly related to life in pieces of these small bodies than on mars, where organics are almost entirely absent.
There's plenty of intruiging destinations to go around, but I think its a mistake to pin all our dreams on finding evidence of alien life, and thats what many people seem to view mars exploration as.
