Again, assuming legitimacy, it is very hard to explain...

Typically the UFO 'reports' you find online are easily shown to be outright fabrications.... remember, I spent a lot of time here and on the MSNBC discussion board swatting them down...
The numerous cockpit videos, however, are in a totally different category. I cannot come up with an explanation....
So, first question we have to ask is "Is this evidence real, or fabricated?"
It is certainly POSSIBLE the videos were fabricated, but is it plausible? People at high levels - have stated that these, and more compelling ones not yet released, are legitimate- they have stated this publicly- not anonymously- I see no reason these people would attach their names to a lie that would be bound to be uncovered eventually.
If the evidence is fabricated, then a large number of people are in on the con- making it implausible that no one would come clean and reveal the ruse as it got more attention in the public eye- Conspiracy theories that require a large number of people to participate in a hoax are not very convincing- see also the "We never went to the moon" conspiracy theorists.
Finally, what would be the motive for this hoax? It doesn't paint anyone in a good light- it exposes that the pentagon is just as clueless as everyone else as to the nature of these phenomenon...
So while the phenomena shown seems unlikely- to put it mildly- the idea that it is a massive hoax also seems unlikely- just how unlikely you think it is will depend linearly with how much experience you have managing large groups of people.
Given the above we should take it seriously- we should not jump to conclusions, but we should investigate it seriously- if only to expose the possible hoax. The implications are too big to ignore.
So if not a hoax, then what is it?
I have NO idea... I have lots of musings, all of which would make an interesting, but not terribly plausible, premise for a science fiction book...
But I honestly cannot come up with a plausible way to explain it away. I have firm opinions about what it is NOT...
The idea that its secret military technology just doesn't hold water- I am sure there is military secret technology that would blow my mind- and seem very futuristic... but it would be understandable, it would be based on established principles... the engineering behind it might be mindbogglingly complicated and expensive, the scientific concepts behind it might be a few brilliant conceptual advances ahead of what the unclassified world is... but that is nowhere near enough to explain the phenomena shown.
The classified world may have some technology years ahead of the non-classified world... in a few cases it might be decades... but if it were suddenly revealed, scientists would be able to see that it was possible to get from the current state-of-the-art to that advanced technology.
These phenomenon do not fall in that category.
I guess it may be remotely possible that some breakthrough made in secret could somehow allow what we see in those videos, but if that were the case, the people controlling it would do a better job of hiding it- not buzzing around where it can be captured on countless sensors.
So it seems unlikely to be the work of existing human technology- all we are left with are pretty implausible science fiction scenarios... reason enough to study it.
Space/Science » in reply to OK, I just watched the "60 Minutes" report.
There are some interesting videos released by Chilean Navy

- Another view...follow the money
- IMO they are most likely secret government projects...
- Assuming the behavior described is accurate, then no, they are unlikely the product of any government on Earth
- Its a misinformation campaign.
- I am referring to the cockpit videos that were taken and released to the public... not un-named sources
- What cockpit videos?
- Take a look:
- Sorry, RL
- ER, they were confirmed as legitimate by the pentagon...

- Well -- it was a clever disguise . . .
