Relax, TB

"The Democrats set the boundaries of appropriate political behavior for eight solid years."

I guess you can say that. You seem to have conveniently forgotten that Democrats were only in power for 12 years of the last 40. And Jimmy Carter wasn't exactly known for his dirty politics. If you don't like today's world, you have mostly your fellow believers to blame for it.

You seem to have a bit of selective amnesia, it was Mr Nixon's dirty tricks department and the Right's fury over their boy getting caught red handed over them that set the Right off on their campaign of skulduggery. The Right has been trying to get even for civil rights, Vietnam, the Great Society, and Watergate ever since. And any tactic was acceptable because (of course) they were fighting communism, wrapped themselves in the flag, carried bibles and quoted 18th century patriots.

I'm not going to try and convince you because what we have here is a failure to communicate, a difference in cultures. You and your partisans are simply incapable of visualizing any culture but your own, so you seem to feel your own political culture is the only one possible, and every deviation from it must be a pathology. I suggest you meditate upon the wisdom of Wade Davis, Canadian ethnographer, who once observed (in another context):

"The world in which you were born is just one model of reality. Other cultures are not failed attempts at being you; they are unique manifestations of the human spirit."
