Well, I own several guns, does that mean I'm part of a militia? I have two .45 ACP handguns, one which I keep locked and loaded for home defense, and one as an investment/backup which I keep dismantled and packed in cosmoline. I also have a .22 WMR Marlin bolt action rifle I bought for turkey hunting in Pennsylvania, although I have only used it for target practice.
I have no problems with folks using guns for sport, home defense, or farm use, but this idea that I have the constitutional right, or even the obligation to declare war on the elected authorities, or for that matter, defend the nation from foreign invasion, strikes me as the ultimate in paranoid suicidal self-indulgence and hubris.
My own firearms ethic demands I never take the weapons off my property unless I am transporting them (unloaded and dismantled) to a range or other location where they can be safely and legally discharged. And I expect the same from everyone else. I don't think that is an unreasonable expectation on my part.
As for "well-regulated", I interpret that as formal military discipline exercised by a legally constituted authority. Anything else is just a bunch of yahoos brandishing dangerous machinery in my face to satisy some pathetic psychological need on their part camouflaged by some preposterous constitutional claims.
Normally, I feel it's none of my business what other people do with their personal property. But when that property has the capability of killing me at a distance, I claim the right to exert some (ahem) collective control over it.
