Another stupid premise that the Democrats shouldn't be allowed to get away with is the idea that deficits are mostly caused by low taxes. We took in enough tax money in 2008 to pay for the 1975 Federal budget twice over. Constant dollars.

In constant 2005 dollars (for all numbers that follow), Federal outlays in 1975 were $1.15 trillion. Estimated Federal outlays for 2010 are estimated at about $3.32 trillion. A factor of 2.89

You “were” comparing ’75 to 2008, not 2010. Comparing government spending from 1975 to 2008 gives you a factor of 1.52, NOT 2.89.

Gee, that’s almost right on the money with the population growth of 1.4, and it doesn’t include the increase in defense spending. I almost looks like per capita spending has remained constant.

Regarding 2010- You included it in your figures because you knew that the knee jerk reaction by the government to a horrible financial crisis would make your none-existent point materialize out of thin air.

The spending in 2009/2010 has nothing to do with the “size” of government and you know it.
