Of course standards of living are better now that in the 19th century. But standards of living in 19th century America, unfettered capitalism and all, were better than everyplace else. The industrial revolution invented the middle class.
^Unions have had their problems, but their primary function is to protect and empower workers.^
It was their primary function. Two generations ago. Today their prime function is as political power brokers, particularly the public unions, and their greed is breaking cities and states. Try and catch up.
We're out of other people's money, Buck.
It should be very significant that 93 percent of the private sector does not need unions to get by. If 93 percent of a group doesn't need something, it may not be as absolutely essential as it's being painted. (Of course, it does mean that by Eri's Law, 93 percent of the private sector must be thugs.)
It should be very significant that a non-unionized education system worked very well for our society prior to the 1960s. As I said elsewhere, the people who put men on the Moon were not educated by union teachers
