"I'm most assuredly wrong somewhere, but for now that's my view and i'm sticking to it."
That's a heck of a place to leave off a thinking process.
Nowadays, the facts are easy to find. It wasn't that long ago that the kind of research I can do in ten minutes now would have taken me an afternoon at a very comprehensive library. You ever try to do a "search" on a stack of newspapers? Spend three hours plowing through microfilm reels? Having to order a reference from another library and wait a week? Organizations with a lot of money subscribed to services that would do searches for you and send clippings on specific subjects.
"Twisting the facts?" Then what are the real ones? That's where real discussion takes place.
