There's lots out there, but here's one that will tell you the good, bad and ugly of unions. This is anything but a pro-union article. The fact remains, unions are what ended child labor, created the 40 hour work week, brought safe working conditions to industry, and likely prevented a marxist takeover in much of the western world. Tom calling unions marxist is idiotic. As if anyone concerned with the wellbeing of workers must be a communist. What a shallow perspective!
Unions also have incited violence, especially in their early 19th century days. Their leadership has at times been as self-seeking as laissez faire capitalists, and some have even been mob influenced. There's plenty to dislike.
The bottom line here however is that most Americans (60+%) believe collective bargaining is a right. One thing Americans don't like is when government takes away rights, especially government in the pocket of powerful industrial interests. How Tom jives this attempt to take the right of workers to organize and bargain collectively with his endless bullshit about how everything government does is about power is laughable. Cognitive dissonance has no place in his pro GOP spambot world.
