For the sake of argument, I'll accept your travel magazine sourcing, despite all the self-referencing links. It's a good article, but it kind of dribbled out before the beginning of the Era of Government Unions. In fact, I don't believe it even mentions public unions at all.
I have already established many times which groups have the most monetary influence on government. In fact, I posted it again just a week ago. It's getting tiresome to have to repeat it, and next time somebody comes up with something like "pocket of powerful industrial interests" I may lose my good manners.
A "right" to collective bargaining? By taxpayer-paid unions? I don't think so. I could get 60 percent of people to poll that we have a "right" to cable television. Certainly we went for many years successfully without government employee unions as they exist now, and as you yourself pointed out, collective bargaining is already limited in a number of states. I don't see anyone taking it to court.
