Maybe part of the problem is the perception that jobs in nuclear power in today's political culture have about as much future as a career in making stagecoaches. Would YOU go to college to become a nuclear power expert?
The safety record of nuclear power stands where it stands, after half a century. We could discuss "potential" hazards all day long, but I'm watching as Japan recovers an old plant from a near-Biblical disaster. Even after this incident, the safety record as far as casualties are concerned is not going to change by much.
The free market is not the main reason the nuclear industry "declined," and the Left (and the media) are going to make damn sure this decline is never reversed. I'm watching now as the media is utterly determined to wring an apocalypse out of the Japan crisis. The Drudge Report, supposedly right-leaning, has been one of the worst offenders.
