Getting your wish

<Where was the IMF during the Renaissance?

The European Renaissance had the benefit of the massive redistribution of property known as the Black Death. Killing off 1/3 of the population made an amazing amount of capital available for investment and exploration. Discovering two unknown continents didn't hurt either.

The problem with the primitive cultures of Africa is that they've been helped too much by the developed countries.

After developed countries have helped themselves to what Africa had to offer for roughly 200 years. And also organized Africa into "nations" that reflected the interests of the colonial powers rather than the cultural patterns of the existing political units, the tribes.

But, indeed, Africa may be having its own version of the Black Death right now, except it's called AIDS, and it's killing off the young in disproportionate numbers, unlike the Black Death, an equal-opportunity killer.

So rejoice! Children are dying in Africa and nobody has to shoot them!
