African history
There were better times.
Climactic reversals and the Portuguese proved a potent one-two punch.
Africa has not always been primitive. Civilization grew in African ways. It didn't have to be dropped on Africa from outside. Agricultural collapse compounded by economic domination by foreign powers crippled its indiginous development.
You could say that part of what was dropped on Africa was a theory of government that is still practiced today: colonialism. The difference: the people ruling absolutely over the majority of Africans for their own profit are themselves Africans behaving like their colonial masters did decades ago.
