Though probably not as tough as you're having it. I've had three launch vehicle companies I helped found sink under me--the last being Rotary Rocket--and got to go through the equipment auctions, the layoffs, the depression, and all the rest. As one of the founders with Gary Hudson, I had the advantage of knowing I would probably be one of the last ones to lose my paycheck*, so at least I didn't have it as bad as those like Dan who are struggling for large, floundering corporations.
Best of luck, Dan, and keep up with the writing. Being desperate and unable to figure out any other way of making a living other than writing is what got Heinlein started. ;)
*Sometimes THE last one. It was not uncommon for Gary to forego his own salary--rarely larger than that of his top people--to help pay off the remaining workers with families.
