Eventually they do tell us things. Sometimes we even like what they have to say.
I'm here 'til they stop paying me. The job affords me instant internet access, and a nice, quiet place to write. Being approx. 20 percent of the internet, and pretty much owning the backbone itself, WorldCom remains a 24/7 business -- and it's noticeably quieter today...
Think I'll go down to the gym in a couple hours, maybe wander the halls and see how many old friends continue running this net of ours, tweaking the POPs, pinging the end users, loop-testing with telco, and complaining about no access to the customer prem -- and, of course, Finlay Fine Jewelry (we’ve finally convinced them to upgrade from their 9.6 baud long-line system to, at least, 19.2). Most nodes take 5 to 10 minutes to load, whereas Finlay generally took 45 minutes -- and would sometimes timeout so you had to start the propagation all over (pain in the...). (NOC- & Field Rep-stuff).
;^)
I really do love it all.
Cheers,
Dan
