Sorry RL I am not speculating, I am very educated, and I hate to see the absurd notion of a tail on the comet continue to be accepted as fact. Take a look at any space object besides a comet and look carefully at the dark side of that object. You can wave a flag, or anything on the dark side and you simply can't see it if it occurs on the dark side. There is no light to reflect off of anything on the dark side. The only way you could see matter streaming off the dark side of an object is if that matter is flouresing or emitting light. Ice crystals or dust is dark matter, it will only show up if it is able to reflect light.
Otherwise learned people used to think the earth was flat. We need to examine the fundamentals of the comet and stop taking old theorys as fact. If there were matter streaming off the back side of a comet it would not dimminish like a flame on a candle.
Take a look at Ice Fog and study the phenomenon yourself. You will find a new way to look at many things.
