Hale Bopp had a blue tail (ice) and a white-yellowish tail (dust).
It's true a comet leaves its particles all around its orbit and our planet crosses their paths all the time: these are the meteorite showers like the Perseids, the Leonids, the Taurids, the Aquarids, Quandrantids, etc..Every name is a different comet: Perseids is Swift-Tuttle.
Now, Halley's comet has outgassed once, years after its perihelium and it was caught by two compatriots astronomers.
