I stand corrected, I should not have called it an optical illusion. My point is that just because it looks like the exhaust of a jet, or rocket engine, doesn't mean that it is. When we look at phenomenon in the sky we try to explain it in terms we all understand. The Million mile per hour ehaust theory which is common and somehow accepted by otherwise intelligent people perplexes me. To me, the Ice Fog phenomenon is the best explanation which reproduces with fair exactness what I see when I look at the objects we refer to as comets. I look forward to the day when probes actually penetrate and sample the periphery of a comet.
