There are chunks of stuff out there bigger than the chunk of stuff that killed the dinosaurs. We just watched some of it (Shoemaker-Levy 9) pummel Jupiter.
These things have been taking out continents about once per thousand years in recent times... that's real poeple, real dead.
From genetic mutation studies some estimate that our species came damn neigh close to extinction earlier, and certainly impact is a candidate as causative factor...
