It's not about the lifeboat its about the technology. Duh. Once again you turn a reasonable suggestion into a moronic one no one in their right mind would suggest. Mars will never be a place where mankind can escape to. It will never have close to the carrying capacity of the Earth. All it can ever be along those lines is a resevoir of our technology and culture to help rebuild Earth in the event of a disaster there. It can also serve as a technology driver to improve life on Earth.
Scott's obvious point which escaped you is that the technology needed to explore Mars is of potential benefit in diverting an impactor. Off course this is only about the 1000'th time that point has passed over your head. Perhaps you should try responding when you are in a more lucid state of mind.
