Gee Matt,
Does it make you feel guilty we might have had a hand in creating the Bin Laden monster??
Of course we supported him! Most (but not all of the) money came from Saudi Arabia but the weapons and training came from America.
In the 1980's, the United States put out an all-points bulletin for Islamic fundamentalists to come to Afganistan to fight the Soviet Union. Bin Laden was among them. "He is said to have received considerable money during the ten year Afghan battle from the CIA"
(Associated Press Sept. 12, 2001)
Ahmed Rashids' book "The Taliban" quotes Bin Laden as saying that American officers helped him set up his first camp in Afganistan. "The weapons were supplied by the Americans, the money by the Saudis" he says in his book.(Yale University Press)
During that decade over 35,000 radical Muslims came to train from 43 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES (yes, you read it right..FORTY THREE).
Eventually more than 100,000 Muslim Radicals have been influenced bt the Jihad.
These CIA funded training camps became virtual universities for future Islamic radicalism.
We have most of the blame for fueling and firing an anti-communist regime we built; and now that questionable policy is coming home to roost, in a bad, BAD way...
THIS is what I'm talking about!!
