1) When is it right to strike first? Do we not have laws that address murder in very specific ways, making exceptions of innocence for self-defense only? Are we to consider this just a continuation of the same fight of 10 years ago, paused but unfinished? Are treaties only scraps of paper? Is the only true history written by the victor? How long will American exceptionalism endure if we begin to behave like the largest pirana in the pool?
2) I have not ignored that history. I don't think we should do nothing. I don't think that the last resort has yet been reached. So far I see we have only one set of specific targets: one very bad man and his very bad entourage. It doesn't seem right to shoot up a whole country to hit that target. And I'm surprised, frankly: I expected the shooting to start today, and have expected it since Christmas.
