I admit that I overlooked the life support requirements of a lunar habitation, but I don't think I excluded it. A lunar habitat is in many ways just a grounded space station, which to me means that the same or very similar habitation modules developed for a space station or long duration mission can be used on the Moon.
I was focusing on transportation because that's the obvious gating technology. In the case of Mars, I consciously left the question of a Martian habitat to MS/Zubrin because I think you've nailed it with the emphasis on living off the land. It's reassuring that lately the focus has shifted from determining whether there's water (ice) on Mars to simply locating the best source of it. If "I" can figure out how to get you to Mars, I have faith that you can take it from there.
